We have over 930 wineries in the Sunny Okanagan Valley, with 80 grape varieties harvested for the production of our award-winning wines. With so much opportunity to test and purchase world class wine right in our back yard, it makes sense to add a custom wine room for storage, chilling out and preserving your favourite blends. As you begin to sketch out your ideas, think of the functional aspects of the room. Will your room be used for entertaining, display, storage, or all three? What mood do you want to create? Your choice of cabinet materials, flooring and personalized lighting will blend together to create an ambiance that may very well make this the favourite room of the house.
Consumption of reds vs whites in the valley is currently about 50 – 50, with sparkling wine and rose on the rise. Knowing the optimal storage conditions for the wine you choose to store will determine the size and type of cooling unit installed. Climate controlled storage is essential for preserving the integrity of your wine. Lighting and sound demand an electrical system, and if you decide on installing a sink, you will need to add plumbing into your plans. Local wine enthusiasts often build wine rooms in basement settings, and above ground glass rooms are becoming more popular. We have recommendations for either choice, as you work with our designers to complete your exciting project, from cabinet features to installation details.

Features to consider for your wine cellar:

  • Soft coloured lighting, LED or recessed lighting
  • A sample bar – somewhere to test your wine or chill out where it’s quiet and have a glass of VQA
  • Glass enclosed or basement setting?
  • Cabinets for wine glasses and decanters
  • Wood features that reminisce of Old-World cellars
  • Racking styles
  • Cooling systems – our ratio of white to red is 49% to 51%
  • What do you want for flooring?
